Dan J. Marlowe, Robert Silverberg, and weekends in Philadelphia

"`Stop somewhere and I'll pick up a bottle of Scotch.'
"`This is Sunday, remember? In Philadelphia."
 — Dan J. Marlowe, One Endless Hour

"`It's 12:01 Saturday night,' I said. `Which means you can't legally buy a drink in Philadelphia.'"
Robert Silverberg, Blood on the Mink

Can't buy a bottle of Scotch on Sunday (12:01) in my neighborhood, either. Bars are open, though, so it just forces me to be social.

The first of these books was published in 1969, the second in 1962. One can now buy a dirnk legally on Sunday in Philadelphia.
